Women’s Match Report

DCCL Women’s Mam Tor Division

Chapel 240-6 v OG Women’s 351-1

OG Women’s won by 111 runs

As the rain bounced down on the first bank holiday Monday in May, the OG ladies softball team watched out of windows in anticipation…

The start to their season was set for the following day. Thankfully Mother Nature was on side and the wicket had dried up enough by the early evening for play to start for Old Glossop and Chapel-en-le-frith in what was the first OG home game of the season within the DCCL women’s softball Mam Tor league.

Some quick wicket work by OG legends Dave and Steve, left OG good to go for 18:30 with a newly mown, rolled and painted wicket!

Old Glossop started in the field against a super friendly, ready and raring to go Chapel team. Netty Bell opened the bowling for a strong start of fielding with the first wicket falling in the first over. Batting Pair 1 from Chapel battled on, with a couple of fours being scored as they settled into the match. OG’s winter training and league matches had clearly warmed the team up for an awesome maiden over by Jenny, some quick throw wicket shots and solid team work around the wicket. This supported a successful fielding performance and the innings finished at 240/6, Old Glossop to bat.

Batting performance for Old Glossop was strong, but held back by some solid boundary stops and fielding from Chapel. Some great bowling technique saw the fall of the wicket against OG and slight reality check at the crease. Despite this OG put in a great performance to walk away 351/1.

The evening provided a thoroughly enjoyable game and opportunity to get to know the Chapel team a little more. They were an enthusiastic team with some strong performances in the field and at the crease. OG opted to nominate Player of the match to Shiela from Chapel for showing some great bowling technique, a sneaky one armed shot at the crease and some good work on stopping 4s in the field.

Our own Amna Ahmed walked away as Player of the Match by Chapel’s deciding - most definitely well deserved with a fantastic 27 runs towards the OG total and an incredible catch and run out to boot.

As we enter into the summer of Tuesday night ladies cricket we are yet again reminded of what an incredible group we have around us. Without the support of all players in the ladies section and beyond we wouldn’t be able to function the way we do. The work and efforts by those off the field meant just as much as those on today.

Thank you for those who popped down to support us! Callan has been a great help in preparing for the season and came along to cheer us on for our first game. A thank you must also go to Catherine for manning the bar, and to Emma who so gracefully played with Chapel to ensure they didn’t have to play shirt today.

A well played start to the season ladies! Now it is time to rest up and prepare for Dinting away Tuesday 14th May!
