Winter Update

What a year fantastic year 2023 was for Old Glossop cricket club. We've had lots of highs and some lows but we continue to be progressive and can't wait for the summer of 2024.

2023 Season Review - All in all it was a positive season for all our sides..

Third Team - The third XI retained their Derek Slack Sunday League Trophy, this time sharing the spoils as joint winnings with Whaley Bridge. Congratulations again to Paul and all the lads for retaining their title in 2023!

Ladies - The ladies backed up a third place finish in 2022 with another third place finish in 2023. They continue to make progress in catching the outstanding teams in the league Charlesworth & Buxton. Cricket hasn't stopped for our ladies over the autumn and winter months, they have been competing and winning an indoor league! Congratulations Netty and the ladies, very well deserved after all your hard efforts.

2nd Team - The 2nd XI secured a third place finish in a competitive league. This will hopefully stand them in good stead as they embark on a massive challenge in Division 2 next season where they will be competing against 1st XI's.

1st Team - The 1st XI made further progress in the league with a 3rd place finish in 2023. They also made it to two semi finals in the Bissenden and T20 cups but unfortunately fell just short. They will certainly be pushing for silverware in 2024!

U11s - Firstly we must be congratulate our U11 players, coaches and parents. To field not one but two U11s teams this season is truly fantastic and the progress we have seen from all the players is outstanding. Lots of hard work has been going on behind the scenes to set up our Allstars and Dynamos to set up a future pathway for all youngsters at the club. Both the Kings & Ducks had good seasons with some great results. Finishing 6th & 7th in a tough North division.

U13s - With the majority of our U13s team still being in the U11s sides positive results came hard to come by but they fought hard against some much older and more experienced opponents in 2023. Eventually finishing 8th in the North Division.

The future is bright for both age groups as we look to bring through more players from the junior set up for the upcoming season.

U19s - The U19s narrowly missed out on the semi finals in 2023, finishing 3rd one point. The club are sure this talented group will bounce back even stronger in 2024.

Overseas 2023 - What can we say! Baylee Foote, extraordinary cricketer and even nicer lad! It was a pleasure to watch him play last season. There were many highlights for Baylee throughout the season, but two that standout by a mile were his knocks of 167* & 163*! Just to reiterate how outstanding these two knocks were, in the process he broke a 30 year old record of highest individual 1st XI score! We wish Baylee all the best for the future and hope to see him back at OG soon.

Practice Facility - Stage one of the practice facility project has begun. Most of you will have seen Total Play have been on sight levelling the area by putting the aggregate down. Stage 2 is set to continue shortly in anticipation to get the practice facility complete for the beginning of the 2024 season.

Annual Presentation - The annual presentation evening is booked at Glossop Golf Club for one week today the 20th January. There is a new menu this year and the price remains at £20 per head. The meal will be followed by trophy presentation and disco! If you haven't already please send your food orders to George White via email.

Club AGM - The club AGM is scheduled for the 6th February 2024 at the pavilion. Everyone associated with the club is encouraged to attend to have your say on all things 2024 season related. More details to come in the coming weeks.

Sponsorship - We have been working hard over the close season to secure sponsorship for the 2024 season and beyond. Sponsorship is vital to a club like ours to help the cricket club continue to grow. We will soon have an exciting full update for you! We still have plenty of sponsorship opportunities available if you or your business would like to join our fantastic sponsors. Please get in touch at oldglossopcricketclub@gmail.com

New Team Wear - As we embark on a new sponsorship cycle, this in turn brings new playing & training kits for all our teams. Once all sponsorships & designs are finalised we will be placing bulk orders on all kit so watch this space for updates soon.

Pre Season Nets - Unfortunately we have lost the time slot of 10-11am that we have had for the last 3 years due to Total Cricket closing their additional 3 lane facility. So senior pre season nets now will begin on 17th February, 12 till 1pm at Total Cricket, Ashton. If you are looking for a new club or interested in getting back into cricket we are always welcoming of new or old players.

As you can see exciting times lie ahead this summer. We can't wait to see you all!
