A busy week of cricket for the OG Women. Finally some nice weather, and two games completed in the DCCL Women’s Softball Mam Tor league.
Monday night saw the women host Dinting at home. The patio was busy! Lots of players from across the club, family and friends came down to show support and there was a real buzz about the clubhouse! Thank you everyone that came down to watch and cheer the ladies on.
The support must have worked, the ladies were fired up and ready to go! Batting first, the opening pair put a fabulous score on the board with a total of 31 on the board. A solid effort that saw the ladies happily knocking the ball to boundaries across the pitch. The remaining three pairs came out and batting play was strong for OG. Only one wicket was lost across all four pairs, and a target of 292 for Dinting who must be mentioned as being quick on their toes in the field, making numerous boundary stops to keep the score lower.
When it came to fielding, OG put in the work around the ground and managed to take 7 wickets. A mixture of run outs, catches, and bowls saw Dinting’s score drop by 35 runs and despite their best efforts, the visitors weren’t able to reach the OG target. Special mention must go to Emma Jones for an absolutely fabulous knee slide catch.
Old Glossop won against Dinting on Monday 22nd July by 37 runs.
292 - 255
Tuesday was an away day and the ladies travelled to Chapel-en-le-Frith. The hosting club were incredible welcoming and a joy to play.
Once again, the OG women chose to bat first. Strong opening pair from Monday - Lisa and Anna - went out and absolutely stole the show. Smashing their total from Monday they put 45 runs on the board. Anna Lunn absolutely nailed it hitting six boundaries in a row in the same over. Followed by some further strong batting, OG women set an intimidating target of 341, and once again only lost one wicket at the crease.
The women in the second innings were strong in the field. The OG ladies managed to take 4 wickets including Lisa Hewittson’s first ever bowl out! The ladies kept the field tight and managed to stop high run scores with accurate bowling and quick footwork in the field. Top performance batting was A Lunn with 35, and bowling R Hodgkins bowling 1-4.
Old Glossop took the win in Chapel with a 341 - 261.
Leading the league, Old Glossop women have still only lost one match this season. As we approach the end of the season there are still a few rearranged games to play and the next match is Offerton away Monday 29th July. The next match shortly follows on Tuesday 30th July away to Charlesworth 2nd XI.
