OG Women’s vs Charlesworth

A very wet start to June definitely put a dampener on the league for a short time but finally the OG women got another match under way after a three week hiatus due to the poor weather conditions.

In the DCCL women’s softball Mam Tor league this week, Old Glossop had the opportunity to host Charlesworth & Chisworth Cricket Club Ladies II.

Old Glossop were up to bat first with the pairs ready to fight for the win (and against the midges!). Anna Lunn put in the teams top batting performance hitting six balls for 4 and a total off 28 runs from 14 balls. This put Old Glossop into a great position for the match. Fielding from the opposition saw one wicket taken with a quick ball hitting the stumps, and there were some good stops and running along the boundary shown by the visitors in the first half of the match. All 8 women came out in well picked pairs by the captain, and contributed towards what was a strong total for Old Glossop of 317 with only 1 wicket lost.

Charlesworth & Chisworth were ready to go after the break and making some great contact with bowlers efforts at the crease. Old Glossop kept it tight in the field and bowled well to take two wickets from protective batting by the travelling team. A 245 run total was posted with the final batting pair striking some excellent shots around the field making the OG women work hard on their fielding skills and many shouts of 'Shot for one'.

It was a pleasure to host the Charlesworth & Chisworth CC ladies today and swap nominations for player of the match. Chosen for Old Glossop as potm was Becca Hodgkins - sponsored by Glossop Ladies Hockey Club - with a run total of 21 and bowling performance of 1-4 for two overs bowled. We were all so impressed with Charlesworth, considering for the majority of their team it's their first cricket season they were brilliant and a joy to play against!

Final score:

Old Glossop 317 - Charlesworth & Chisworth CC II 245

As always, big thanks to supporters this evening including our fabulous sponsors at “The Commercial” as well as our fabulous bar host Carolyn, umpire Steve, and scorer Owen!

A game in hand and Old Glossop are still sitting top of the league. Well played ladies and onto the next match:
