Happy New Year!!
As we begin 2023, we would like to take the time to recap what was a fantastic year on the field in 2022 for all our teams. Below is your full review of how our teams performed last summer..
1st XI - League 6th | Cup SF | T20 QF
With promotion in 2021 to the top division of the D&C the 1st XI found themselves finishing mid table in their first season in the top flight.
After a turbulent winter where we had the bad news we'd be without 3 of the previous seasons top 5 bats for different reasons, it initially felt like we'd be up against it. Fortunately, we recruited well with a few new faces coming in before and during the season, on top of a couple making a 2022 return. Overall this was a valiant effort in the league and has now laid the foundations for future challenges this coming season.
In the cups, we managed to reach the semi final of the Bissenden, losing to eventual winners Woodley. Whilst in the T20, similar to last season we were again knocked out at the quarter final stage.
Individually, new signing James Lythgoe scored over 500 runs in his debut season. Whilst in the bowling, Rob Adderley took 62 wickets.
2nd XI - League 3rd | Cup QF.
The 2nd XI went into the penultimate game of the season still in with an outside chance of winning the league, however this wasn't meant to be with the 2's eventually finishing third.
After an indifferent year in 2021 and with the loss of skipper Daz Acomb to injury before a ball was bowled, Robbie Barrow took over the reigns for 2022. Robbie took it in his stride and utilised a mix of experience and youth to guide the 2s to a third place finish. This was a fantastic effort from the 2s in which they can build on for a title challenge in 2023.
In the Hawke cup, we was knocked out by Division 3 league winners Newton at the quarter final stage.
On a individual note, Andy D (515) and Ethan (410) were in the top 5 league run scorers. Ste Allcock (32) finished in the top 10 wicket takers & young talented spin bowler Awais Khan had an average of 9.19, narrowly missing out on the league bowling averages.
3rd XI Sunday - League Champions
After a 3rd place finish in the inaugural 2021 Derek Slack Sunday league the 3rd XI built on them foundations to take the spoils in 2022!
New captain Paul Howbrook blended a mixture of young and social players, with the young lads taking the responsibility at the forefront. This worked perfectly & the 3rd XI ended the season with triumph by lifting the league title on the last game of the season away at Whaley Bridge.
Youngsters Ethan Lumb, Zaeem Arshad & Tom Lane all finished with over 200 runs. Ethan Lumb also managed 16 wickets in a brilliant all round display.
Ladies - League 3rd
The ladies finished the season on a high with a victory over champions Charlesworth to secure a 3rd place finish in their debut season in the High Peak Ladies Softball League.
After struggling to barely scrape a team together in May, the ladies came a long way to finish the season 3rd just behind 2 very good sides in Charlesworth & Buxton. This is an amazing achievement in such a short space of time for our ladies.
Personal achievements for the ladies included; 100+ runs for Sharon Gibbs (129) & Netty Bell (111). With Netty finishing with an average of 106. Whilst in the bowling Netty also took 11 wickets.
Under 19's - Regional Group 3rd
Our triumphant 2021 U19s were unlucky to miss out on a second successive finals day last year, unfortunately losing out on net run rate.
In a very short 4 game season, the u19s won 3 & lost 1. This however meant the season ended in heartbreak for our youngsters, as 3 teams were on the same points total so the finalists were decided on net run rate. The lads will be keen to bounce back in 2023 with what will hopefully be a longer league season.
In the 4 game season Jacob, Ethan & Zaeem all scored over 100 runs & Tom Lane took 5 wickets.
Under 15's - Regional League 2nd, Finals SF
Our fantastic U15s went from strength to strength in 2022 and they were rewarded for their efforts by reaching finals day.
Finishing 2nd in the regional league with 5 wins, 1 defeat & 1 abandonment. This lead to the excitement of playing in finals day hosted by Dinting. However, it wasn't to be as we was beaten in the semi final to a very strong Hayfield side.
Seth Hall finished the season with 115 runs & 6 wickets, whilst Tom Lane also took 6 wickets & Awais Khan 5 wickets.
Under 13's - Regional League 5th
The U13s absolutely exceeded expectations in 2022 with a fifth place finish! This was a great achievement considering we wasn't going to enter a team last year.
During the winter months it was looking unlikely we'd have enough players to field a team in 2022, but after a few new players joined the club at the very last minute we luckily was able to.
Finishing 5th was a fantastic effort, considering the strength of some of the teams in the regional north division.
Zuraiz Arshad was the star with the bat scoring 85 runs in 6 innings. The wickets were shared around with Hamza Mirza, Harry Taylor & Zuraiz Arshad all taking 4 wickets.
Under 11's - Regional league 5th
Our young U11's continued to develop in 2022, winning 4 games and finishing in 5th position in the league.
This group of boys and girls are really developing into a great team now, with fantastic team spirit and there was some great performances throughout the summer.
Batting wise, Oliver Pocock scored over 50 runs. Whilst Daisy Higginbottom, Emily Bell, Zohar Arshad all scored over 40 runs. In the bowling Harry Taylor & Oliver Pocock took 5 wickets a piece.
In what was a brilliant year on the field for our teams, it's great to see our efforts yield some rewards, not only in terms of silverware for our 3rd XI but in the development of our seniors, juniors & ladies. Long may this continue and hopefully we will reap more rewards for our efforts in 2023 and beyond!! Happy New Year!!
