Dove Holes 156-10 VS Old Glossop 70-10 Dove win by 86 runs.
After last weeks washout OG arrived at a chilly but thankfully dry Dove this week. Appearing in the Bissenden final for the first time in 14 years.
Skipper Adderley lost the toss and Dove elected to take first knock on what looked a good, but maybe a little soft wicket.
Gilbride and Jones opened the batting for Dove. They took the score onto 35 before the dangerous Gilbride (19) was caught on the edge by Joy, off the bowling of Walsh.
To the delight of the OG travelling faithful, skipper Adderley (4-21) then removed Gregory, Gemmel & Forder in consecutive balls to claim an impressive hat trick.
Dove then fell into further trouble 43-6, as change bowler Littlewood (3-26) removed Bagshaw and Walsh (2-30) accounted for opener Jones (23) lbw.
With OG well on top, Hall (62) and S. Cartledge (40*) then produced what was to be a match winning 103 run partnership. The Dove innings ending on 156 all out in the 40th over.
During the innings break the heavens opened with persistent drizzle and we had a prolonged interval. At one point the umpires wanted to call the game off and all come back next week.
However, after 2 hours of waiting the rain finally disappeared and the OG innings could begin.
Gilbride (2-14) and Critchlow (3-15) opened the bowling and reduced the visitors to 9-4. Both bowling good line and lengths to the OG top order.
With the OG Captain and VC now at the crease early, they had a lot of work to do to try and rebuild the run chase. They batted sensibly and managed to put the odd bad delivery away, before further disaster struck when McGrail (12) was adjudge caught down leg side off the bowling of D. Cartledge.
Whitehouse (19) came to the crease and looked comfortable. But when Adderley (15) also perished to the bowling of Cartledge (3-21), OG were in a very similar position to Dove at 47-6.
Unfortunately the usually reliable OG tail failed to wag this time unlike the Dove one in the first innings and we capitulated to an 86 run defeat, being bowled out for 70.
Congratulations to Dove Holes on the victory. Deserved winners on the day! Also congrats to Joe Hall on his man of the match performance. We wish you all the best for the rest of the season.
It was a disappointing end to what has been a brilliant cup run. We can hold our heads up high and now know what we need to aspire to if we are to get to the next level in seasons to come.
Finally, a massive thank you to everyone that came to support us on Sunday. We are gutted we couldn’t win it for you but very much appreciated all your support. Thank you!
