With a new year comes lots of possibilities at OGCC, we are very excited for more great times to come this summer.
2022 is here and that means we’re more than halfway through the off-season, with around three months until competitive cricket gets underway yet again.
This year’s 1st and 2nd team, and ladies league fixtures have already been released by the D&C, you can find mens here & ladies here. We are still awaiting Sunday League & Junior fixtures, but they are expected to land later this month.
ON THE FIELD
Seniors
Old Glossop will once again be entering 3 teams into the mens leagues this season. We will also be playing in all cup competitions including; Bissenden, Village, Hawke & T20 cups.
After promotion in 2021, our 1st XI will be looking forward to seeing what division 1 has in store this season. Also after reaching the final of the Bissenden Cup last season, can we go one step further and win it in 2022?
The 2nd XI will be playing in division 3, looking to compete for the league title and cup again, both of which we last won in 2020.
Our 3rd XI will be back again this year in the ever progressing D&C Sunday league. 2022 sees several new teams joining the league, which will no doubt bring more exciting encounters for our young squad. No fixtures have been released yet but we are certainly looking to build on the success and development of 2021.
Pre season senior nets will begin at Total Cricket Ashton, 10-11am from Saturday 5th February. These indoor sessions will run right up until the season starts in April. It’ll be a great way to blow off the winter cobwebs before the season gets into full swing. New players are always welcome to attend.
Juniors
For the junior sides, currently no fixtures have been released as of yet. Our 2021 U19 Champions will be raring to go again after last years title success. They may be losing a couple of the older players, but with a couple of potential new additions in 2022 they will be no doubt competing for honours once again.
The younger age groups (u15’s, u13’s & u11’s) have been playing indoor games this winter and again will be eager to get outdoors once the summer arrives.
We are always on the look out to bolster our junior squads at OG, especially at u15 and u13 age groups. We offer highly qualified coaching all year round from Lancs coach Alex Newby. Also we will have All Stars & Dynamos Cricket for the first time at the club this summer. What better time to get involved or back involved in cricket.
Ladies
Our women‘s team will play competitive league cricket for the first time in the clubs history this summer. The High Peak Ladies Softball league structure and fixtures were released last week. This is sure to be an exciting time for the ladies at Old Glossop. Read more about 2022 Ladies Structure & Fixtures here
As stated above, we will release the Sunday league and junior fixtures as soon as they are confirmed by the D&C.
OFF THE FIELD
After much deliberation the club committee took the decision to postpone the Annual Club Dinner from Saturday 15th January to Saturday 5th March. This was in light of an increasing number of people being unable to attend the original date due to Covid and other reasons, and our intention is to ensure that as many people as possible are able to attend this important event and trophy presentation. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause and look forward to seeing everyone on the revised date in March - all being well.
Hard work continues behind the scenes in the hope to secure funding to modernise the old, dated, concrete practice facilities that we currently have available at the club. A lot of credit must be given to Andy Dwyer, Alice Banks & Den Lane for being the driving force behind funding this. Fingers crossed funding can be secured soon and we can see them installed this coming season, creating better cricket and facilities for all.
Senior training nights this summer will now be being taken by Lancs coach Alex Newby. Many of you will already know Alex as he coaches our junior section. Alex will be working with the senior captains to create a summer programme for our seniors which should make practice more focused, productive and most importantly enjoyable. This in turn should allow players to get the most of the session and ultimately lead to improvements on the field. This summer we are hoping to host more events and functions at the club. We will be hoping to provide an event calendar that will have at least 1 event per month. These events will provide much needed enjoyment & entertainment for all in these testing COVID times. The events will also go a long way to raising vital funds for the club. Keep an eye on social media for further updates as we approach the coming season.
Heres to a fantastic 2022!
