2021 was a year that threw up lots of changes and challenges for all of us but there was still plenty to celebrate at OGCC.
While our mens teams went trophyless, there was still plenty of success and progress elsewhere on the field as well as plenty of transitions off the field.
Sponsors
The start of the year saw several new sponsors come on board at the club. Life time friends of the club Gaz & Ste Totteys’ businesses’, Glossop Aggregates & Fuel Supplies, and CPR Smart became Principal Club Sponsors. Tameside Fire & RVB Decorators continued their sponsorship with the club as Gold Sponsors. Spire Construction renewed as Junior Sponsor. Whilst Neighbourhood Gin began as the newly founded ladies team sponsor. For more information on our sponsors click here. Everyone at the club is truly grateful for the support our sponsors have given us over the last year, thank you!
ICON
February saw the completion of our 3 year partnership with ICON Cricket and subsequent release of our new on and off field kit. It was great to see so many players buy into purchasing the kit. It’s fair to say it all looks great and everyone was looking the part last season. If you require new kit for the upcoming season please shop here
Derek
In March we were struck by the devastating news that club legend Derek Slack had passed away. The club announced that the OGCC pavilion would be named in Dereks honour. The event to unveil a new plaque on the pavilion was postponed from happening in 2021 due to Covid, we are hopeful an event to celebrate Derek can go ahead in 2022.
Patio Development
Early spring saw many new hospitality restrictions put in place. These restrictions forced our hand to improve our outdoor seating facilities. The clubs new picnic benches were an instant success as we saw bumper crowds on match days & Friday nights, with lots enjoying the cricket.
U19’s
As the season began, the new exciting U19 fifteen over, LMS format got into full flow. It proved to be a successful season for the youngsters, as they finished the campaign as champions! A fantastic effort from our lads! The future is bright at OGCC!! For a full season review read more here
Sunday League
2021 saw OG’s 3rd XI competing in the newly founded D&C Sunday League. This was a great success for the league, as well as our younger and fringe players. There will be more excitement ahead in 2022 as the Sunday League has further expanded with the introduction of more teams from our league, as well as fresh faces from neighbouring leagues.
Bissenden
The first team had a brilliant cup run this year, reaching the final of the Bissenden Cup for the first time since 2007. Unfortunately, despite a hat-trick from captain Adderley in the final we fell short against a very good Dove Holes side. All in all a fantastic achievement from our 1st XI in reaching the final, defeating some good 1st teams along the way. We will be striving to go one step further in 2022!
Ladies
Ladies cricket at OG continues to progress. We saw more and more ladies attending our practice evenings as well as playing several soft ball tournaments and matches. 2022 sees the D&C league introducing a ladies soft ball league. Next season the ladies will be sporting new Neighbourhood Gin sponsored kit. This is fantastic news for the continued development of ladies cricket at OGCC, and we are definitely excited for the coming season.
Promotion Success
As well as the successful cup run last season, the 1sts were also promoted from Division 2. Eventually finishing 2nd behind champions Hazel Grove. We are looking forward to new challenges in Division 1 this coming season. For a full season recap click here.
Mayor’s Fundraiser
The August bank holiday hosted the inaugural Mayor’s Day Fundraiser. The day was a huge success, raising funds for the club as well as the Mayor’s charities. We hope to continue and grow this event in the years to come so we can raise further funds for the clubs future development.
